My Name is 'Khan’ is something beyond, making of the movie-Karan Johar’s

IKLAN

Bollywood’s big banners - Dharma Productions and Red Chillies - announced their collaboration with Fox Star Movies in an official press conference yesterday. The international production company has brought the worldwide rights of Karan Johar’smovie ‘My Name is Khan’.

The director said this was an exceptional moment for both the banners to associate with the prestigious Fox. On the movie, he said that ‘My Name is Khan’ is something beyond the making of the movie. “It is much more than creating a film; it was more like a passion project.”

The King Khan presented the movie in his own style. He felt the movie was much advanced thought-wise, when he came across its story that was written by Karan three years ago. Shah Rukhstated that his name is no way related to the movie. Instead, the name of the film is relevant to story that Shibani Bathija has written. He said, “My name is unimportant. My work is much more important than my name.” Popular to belief, the movie is said to be on terrorism. When asked on this, the actor said, “The film is not about terrorism, it is about relationships. Relationship between two people, the society, city, country and finally between the entire world.” He also denied that the movie is fully based on Islam. It shows a huge Islamic in western angle and the makers of the movie have taken care not to hurt the sentiments of people. Kajol is said to be the cornerstone of the movie.

It will be great to see the popular star couple Shah Rukh and Kajol on screen after a long gap. The movie thus carries lots of expectations. But Karan Johar revealed that the movie won’t have any romantic songs, as in his previous love stories like ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, and ‘Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham’. The movie will be a love story but in a different manner.

In ‘My Name is Khan’, Shah Rukh Khan plays the character of Rizvan Khan who is suffering from Asperger’s Syndrome and Kajol plays his wife as Mandira.

Can’t wait for this one, right?

Shahrukh Khan desired to cast Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in his next production!

IKLAN

Aishwar

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan are on the way to dump their seven year old rivalry as the two great Bollywood personalities are coming together for Shahrukh Khan’s next home production.

They clashed during the filming of ‘Chalte Chalte’ when Shahrukh Khan ousted Ash and cast Rani Mukherjee for the unceremonious behavior of Salman Khan on the set. Following the ugly incident, Shahrukh expelled Ash and signed Rani. After the incident, SRK and Ash almost stopped talking.

But things changed after Karan Johar’s birthday bash. Ash and Shahrukh joined hand where King Khan apologized Ash for the wrong and forgetting the past later Ash, Abhi, SRK and Gauri set the dance floor on fire.

The duo that ablaze the silver screen with their sizzling chemistry in ‘Mohabbatein’ and ‘Devdas’ decided to bury the hatchet and come together once more to entertain the audience. Shahrukh Khan desired to cast Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in his next production and sources confirmed that Ash too agreed to play his ladylove.

The movie is ready to roll by the end of 2010.

King Khan is experienced and great at handling things like that

IKLAN

knight-

SRK  has maintained and always emphasized on the fact that he’s King Khan and only likes to be the king, the winner at all times.

So when something untoward happens to challenge that status, he’s mighty unhappy and shows it blatantly.

Looks like his team Kolkata Knight Riders’ disappointing performance at the IPL has put his spirits down currently.

Also there’s the controversy surrounding Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy and he’s not been interacting with the media properly of late. He did wear a smile and meet his fans and the contest winners of an online ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ contest but he was visibly upset.

Added to that was the fact that his last release ‘Billu’ created a lot of controversy connected to its name and lyrics of the song ‘Marjaani’ but eventually got a great beating at the box office.

He’s always been warm with the press and this rather cold interaction left everyone stunned and left many wondering if he was actually having second thoughts about retaining the ownership of the Knight Riders

Crossroads in life come for everyone. But that’s a part of show business. And we thought the King Khan is experienced and great at handling things like that.

Exclusive Shah Rukh Khans Cheerleading Girls

IKLAN

Anushka Sharma joins the cheerleaders on the stage

The Indian Premier League is just a month away and hoping to cheer for Shah Rukh Khan ’s team -- the Kolkata Knight Riders -- are a group of 24 young girls. The girls are vying for a place in the six-member cheerleading squad to be chosen by audience votes during a unique television show called Knights and Angels, which kicked off on February 28 on NDTV Imagine. The brainchild of Shah Rukh Khan, this much-awaited reality dance show will trace the hunt for six spirited and talented girls to lead the cheerleading squad of the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Adding his final stamp of authority would be judge Sourav Ganguly, the inimitable icon of Indian cricket and captain of Kolkata Knight Riders. Shah Rukh has also managed to rope in his Rab Ne Bana De Jodi heroine, Anushka Sharma to judge the show, which will be hosted by VJ-turned actor Purab Kohli. After an extensive audition conducted across key metros in India, the 24 short-listed girls will be groomed and trained by the biggest names in the Indian entertainment industry. From there, the final six will be chosen on qualities like energy, style, chutzpah, poise, personality, attitude, grace, rhythm, and fire.

They will then be mentored by ace choreographer Shiamak Davar and taken through their paces by the revolving guest judges. Sounds exciting? Well, Shah Rukh is pretty excited himself. "Cricket is a perfect blend of hard work and entertainment. We are very excited about the whole challenge of finding the best cheerleading squad for our Knights. These girls will become a key part in our quest for victory this season. The competition is tough and the boys will need all the support they can get on field," he said. Well, let’s hear from the girls.

In the picture: Girls give it their best shot as they perform with Anushka Sharma (centre) during the show.

Sunanda Hiroo

Name: Sunanda Hiroo
Age: 22
Education: Graduation
Hometown: Kolkata

"I have travelled abroad where people respect the concept of cheerleaders. I think it’s a great concept. Now that it has come to India, we all should appreciate it. Cheerleaders are basically to support the team, they are the backbone to boost them." Asked how it will help her career if she is selected, she quickly says, "It will be great if I make it to the top six. We will get to travel all over India with the team and meet international players."

Talking about diet and fitness, Sunanda says, "We are brilliantly taken care of. We go to the gym in the morning and advised the right amount of sleep. We practice for 12 hours a day with regular breaks. So, did she get to meet SRK? "Oh yes. Shah Rukh Khan is simply adorable. We all were shocked when he walked in. He told us to have the right attitude."

Preeji Benger

Name: Preeji Benger
Age: 18
Education: 2nd year BMS [Bachelor of Management Studies]
Hometown: Mumbai

"I wanted to take part in this show because it’s a great opportunity for any girl to try something different. I think one can make a career in this if one loves cricket or any kind of sport." Asked how different cheerleading is from dancing she said, "Cheerleading is a part of dancing. In cheerleading, you have to have the right kind of spirit to pass on to your team. While selecting us, they will look at our performance, energy level and the interaction with the audience. So it’s fun. We are going to cheer in an Indian way. Cheerleading is not 24/7, so we can get back to our routine after the match."

Ananya Bera

Name: Ananya Bera
Age: 16
Education: 11th standard
Hometown: Kolkata

"I want to become a cheerleader because I am from Kolkata and I want to cheer the Kokata Knight Riders. I loved the concept of cheerleaders because there is nothing negative about it." She continues, "Cheerleading is not popular in India so by bringing this concept people will think positively about it. It’s basically a team of girls who are going to cheer for their team and motivate and entertain them. Everything is done keeping Indian culture and sentiments in mind. So it’s going to be fun." Asked whether there was any other reason for her taking part in this show, she replies, "I participated in this show because Shah Rukh Khan is my favourite actor and it’s his team. I haven’t met him though I have spoken to him during a telephonic interview. He told us to work hard to be his Angles." But what about studies? Ananya says that her college is very supportive. "IPL will happen in April so there will be vacation during that time. So I’m not going to miss college."

Rupali

Name: Rupali
Age: 15
Education: 11th standard
Hometown: Mumbai

"Kolkata Knight Riders is my favourite team and I’m really excited to be a part of this show. I am also part of this show because it is SRK’s team. If I make it to final six, I will be happy to cheer for my favourite team. I will also get to an opportunity to travel and meet lots of people. There is not much difference between dancing and cheerleading. A cheerleader has to have the right attitude and spirit to motivate the team members. You dance for the judges in a competition here while here we dance for the team." Talking about her diet she says, "Red Chillies [producers] have taken brilliant care of us. We eat and sleep well, and exercise regularly to stay fit." Talking about Shah Rukh she said, "He is a superb person and it was the best moment when we all met him. He told us to give our best and not to be disheartened if we don’t make it to final. It’s going to be healthy but tough competition. Let’s hope for the best."

Sana

Name: Sana
Age: 18
Education: Under graduate Hometown: Nagpur

"It’s a new concept in our country which I find interesting. Cheerleading is not about wearing only short costume or anything vulgar; it is about cheering for your team." She adds, "I have just completed my acting course in Anupam Kher?s acting school .It s big platform and exposure for me since I am into acting and modelling." So how was it meeting with SRK? When I first met Shah Rukh Khan, I didn’t utter a single word out of shock. Even in my wildest dream I never thought I would meet him. All of us were just pinching each other to check whether it’s just a dream. He wished us all the best and motivated us. We are enjoying our busy schedule."

Shruti

Name: Shruti
Age: 21
Education: Under graduate and script writer
Hometown: Mumbai

"I am a writer by profession and I am looking at exploring my creative talent," Shruti says. So how different is cheerleading from dancing? "There is a vast difference between cheerleading and dancing. Cheerleading is not just about dancing. It is about your energy, spirit, stamina and attitude. Dancing is jus a form of expression." Talking about the experience being on this show she says, "We have being working very hard and it’s a pleasure to be part of this show. It?s a learning experience for all of us." So what has she learnt so far from the show? "I have made new friends and if I make it to the top six, then I will meet more people.. It’s an experience of a lifetime."

Shah Rukh’s been married to Gauri Khan for nearly 18 years

IKLAN

We all know Bollywood’s King, Shah Rukh Khan is known for his acting skills, but he’s not all too hard on the eyes either! His suave style, head full of dark locks, light eyes and infamous dimples make him a fantasy man for women across the world, but alas he’s a taken man. Shah Rukh’s been married to Gauri Khan for nearly 18 years! The two met way before Shah Rukh Khan was the superstar that he is today. Now we’re not here to bash her looks or anything, but ever since Shah Rukh Khan has become famous people have always questioned whether Gauri was a hot enough match for one of the biggest stars in Bollywood.

Okay, so she may not be the most gorgeous girl on the planet, and the couple may not always match, but the chemistry the two share is undeniable. And while she may not have movie star good looks, Gauri Khan has hit the Mumbai fashion scene in full force. In fact, Gauri Khan used to be Shah Rukh’s costume designer in his earlier films (we’re talking the days before Manish Malhotra and Karan Johar!). It seems the fashion bug bit her as she’s often spotted out and about in the chicest clothing and designer labels, and when Shah Rukh Khan is your husband you can afford it! But the first lady of Bollywood is making some of her own moolah, as part-owner and producer of Shah Rukh’s entertainment company, Red Chilies Entertainment.

Shah Rukh and Aamir coming together for director Danny Boyle

IKLAN

srk

Our headlines may mislead our patrons into thinking that two of Bollywood ’s biggest superstars, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan, are coming together for a film to be directed by the SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE director, Danny Boyle. But sadly, that is just wishful thinking. However, there is one very important factor that binds the three and that is none other than the famous stunt coordinator and action director, Sham Kaushal.

For those who are unaware, Sham Kaushal has been in the news for composing the stunts and action sequences of last week’s release, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. Moreover, he is also the action/stunt coordinator of Karan Johar’s Shah Rukh Khan starrer, MY NAME IS KHAN and Rajkumar Hirani’s Aamir Khan starrer, 3 IDIOTS. He has an impressive list of releases coming up this year in the form of Vishal Bhardwaj’s KAMINAY, Nagesh Kukunoor’s TASVEER and Prakash Jha’s RAJNEETI, apart from the three prestigious films mentioned above.

Well, Bollywood may have woken up late to the talent of Sham Kaushal, but King Khan spotted it very early on and gave Sham a break in his home productions, ASOKA (2001). Later he stunned the film industry by composing some amazing stunts and action sequences for Hrithik Roshan’s KRISSH. Sham then went on to do OM SHANTI OM for SRK’s home banner, Red Chillies and he is now coordinating the action sequences of two of the most anticipated releases of 2009, MY NAME IS KHAN and 3 IDIOTS.

Way to go, Sham and here’s looking forward to all your stunts (literally!) in your forthcoming films...

Baadshah of Bollywood SRK has no problems with Slumdog critics

IKLAN

Many critics and prominent industry people have been fuming about the fact that the Oscar nominated film ’Slumdog Millionaire’ highlights the poverty in Mumbai. But the Baadshah of Bollywood SRK has no problems with it.

He thinks that the poverty seen in the film is a reality and thinks it’s wrong for people to become cynical when the film is getting international acclaim.

Khan, who has read the original book as well as the script says, "Isn’t that (poverty and slums) a reality? If you (critics) have a problem with the word slumdog, why don’t you look positively and see that there is a word millionaire or ’crorepati’ also."

Khan, has returned from Los Angeles after a month-long schedule of Karan Johar’s ’My name is Khan’ and testified, "I have just returned from the US and people there have become crazy about the film and its music. The film’s sound is also good apart from a good story and screenplay. The film deserves all awards."

However he doesn’t regret turning down Anil Kapoor ’s role in the film.

He says maybe he wouldn’t have done justice to the role of a game show host like Anil Kapoor. He was already hosting ’Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC) and later ’Kya Aap Panchvi Pass Se Tez Hai’ during the time Danny shot the film and will do the new season too.

He adds, "I love awards and I hope to feature in a film comprising Indian cast and crew some day which will go to win these awards. The success of ’Slumdog Millionaire’ worldwide is an incentive to all Indian filmmakers."

And we always thought that the baadshah was totally in love with Bollywood only and didn’t really care about anything else. It’s nice to see him talk with an international perspective for a change!

SRK would have been better than Anil Kapoor in Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire has finally put India on the global map, as it swept away four Golden Globes, however our superstar SRK was supposed to be an important part of the flick, he was the original choice of director Danny Boyle to play the host of Who Wants to be the Millionaire show, which was later played by Anil Kapoor.

However SRK does not regret missing out on the movie, he says, ” No. I know Danny felt bad about it. But he is such a good human being. And his love for India is something very special. After I saw the film, I thought Anil had done a fabulous job and deserves every bit of the success.”

SRK even refused some biggies like Lagaan, Munnabhai and more recen 3 Idiots, ask him about it and he says, “There shouldn’t be any afterthought once a decision is made. Nobody could have done a better job than Sanjay Dutt in Munnabhai… Yes, I was keen to do Lagaan, but Ashutosh and I didn’t get a producer at that time. I wasn’t into production then. And I didn’t do 3 Idiots which Aamir is doing now. Looks like Aamir was destined to do both the roles. He is brilliant, no doubt. Everything isn’t made for me alone. God has given me enough, I’d better be happy and contented. “

Do you think SRK would have been better than Anil Kapoor in Slumdog Millionaire?

Everything that Farhan Akhtar attempts is turning out to be a big success, and one more example of that is his latest foray into the world of television, the innovative and interesting show, OYE, IT’S FRIDAY. The show is notching up good TRP’s and getting praises from all who have seen it. But can you guess who was Farhan’s advisor about how things work in the world of television?

Well, it was none other than Farhan’s good friend, Shah Rukh Khan, who is a veteran in the matters pertaining to the small screen. The director, and now hit actor-cum-singer and additionally the successful host of a popular show had called up SRK to seek his advise on money matters (how much to charge for the show). The super-star not only spoke to him about money matters but also gave him make up tips for OYE, IT’S FRIDAY and in particular the small screen, which is very different from the way it is applied in films. Needless to add that Farhan was all ears and he paid heed to the advice given to him, and the result can be seen in the show.

Always knew that Shah Rukh Khan was a good friend, just like the saying - A friend in need is a friend indeed!

Shahrukh Khan to essay a pivotal role in Mumbai Attacks

IKLAN

Children

Filmmaker B Subhash has been working on the script of a film based on the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai and he wants Shahrukh Khan to essay a pivotal role.

The producer-director, who has made pulpy fictions like ‘Disco Dancer’, ‘Dance Dance’, ‘Tarzan’ and ‘Dance of Love’ is now ready to grapple with a serious subject. Right after the terror siege in Mumbai in November, Subhash put himself at task to pen the script of a film called ‘Taj Terror’.

On Subhash’s wishlist are some big stars of Bollywood. The director wants SRK to play the martyred NSG commando Sandeep Unnikrishnan. He wants John Abraham to play one of the triumphant commandoes who neutralized the militants. And he wants his favourite star Mithun Chakraborty to play the role of NSG chief JK Dutt.

Though the film will deal with the terror attack, Subhash says it will focus mainly on the emotional fallout of the entire episode, the heartache it caused to the people involved, and the resulting sense of unity it created among everyone.

The filmmaker wants to begin shooting in January. However, he is yet to sign any of the big stars that are on his wishlist.

The cold war between the two reigning Bollywood Khans

IKLAN

The cold war between the two reigning Bollywood Khans, Shah Rukh and Aamir seems set for a thaw with Shah Rukh appealing to everyone to watch Aamir’s film "Ghajini" that releases Dec 25.

A day after proclaiming himself the biggest brand in the country, Shah Rukh, in an apparent change of heart, said at a press conference: "I appeal to all to watch ’Ghajini’."

He was speaking late Thursday at a press conference to introduce to the media the lead actress of his latest release "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi", Anoushka Sharma.

Shah Rukh said: "I want all the people to watch ’Ghajini’. We as people from the industry know how much pain it takes to make a film. We wait anxiously every Friday to see the result of our hard work that we put in to make a film."

"So my best wishes are with every film be it ’Ghajini’ or ’Chandni Chowk To China’ or any other movie. I want every film to do well, " he added.

Shah Rukh said: "During the time when we talk of unity and wish to stay united, we should pray good for everyone."

Rubbishing reports of his rivalry with Aamir, Shah Rukh said, "We share an extremely cordial relationship."

Citing an example, he said when they met at a party recently they were discussing doing a film showing their six-pack abs.

"I was scared as I lost my six packs and wanted Aamir to say no. Luckily, he said he has lost his packs too, so let’s give a chance to some other actor, " Shah Rukh quipped.

About Aamir, he said, "I think he has changed himself well over the recent period of time. Previously, he did not like to interact much with the public and the media, but now he interacts well and has also developed a sense of humour."

On the inclusion of "Rab Ne.."’s script in the Oscar library, he said, "It feels good as now Indian film scripts are getting recognition in the West."

He said Indian films suffer from lack of good screenplay writing. "The main reason is that we do not have good schools to teach it, " he said.

"Screenplay is a science, which needs to be taught where one needs to say many things in least possible words, " he explained.

Shah Rukh pointed out the need to change the style of writing screenplays in order to get recognition in the international market.

"Our stories are too lengthy, full of songs and dances which makes it unacceptable for the international audience. So if we change the style and be more compact in story telling our work will be more accepted internationally, " he added.

Shah Rukh also lauded the media for their efforts of covering news and being the bridge between stars and the audience.

He said "Initially, I used to be quite embarrassed by the questions being asked by the media as a few were very personal. But later, I realised those questions were not to embarrass me but they really wanted to clarify certain things, which was in good taste."

"Media guys are true to their work as I am to acting, " he remarked.

On Wednesday, he said "Rab Ne Bana De Jodi" is doing well and there is no threat to his film from "Ghajini".

"There cannot be any competition with me. I’m the biggest brand in the country. I am always there to endorse for everyone, but the saddest part is that no one is there to endorse for me as there is no brand bigger than me, " Shah Rukh said at the launch function of Filmfare magazine’s latest issue.

Reacting to Shah Rukh’s statement, Aamir said: "He has been speaking about himself for last 20 years so there is nothing new about it."

Aamir is aggressively campaigning for "Ghajini", which will release Dec 25, and the ushers of the multiplexes, where Shah Rukh’s film is running, have adopted Aamir’s Ghajini-hair style to promote the action-thriller.

Six-pack and eight-pack is what all the Khans are competing for these days

IKLAN

Shahrukh, Salman and Aamir - all the three khans are busy simultaneously in promoting their individual films. While Shah Rukh is basking in the success of his latest release Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Aamir is busy promoting his new film Ghajini and Salman is far behind trying to get a pre-release buzz going for his under production project Veer.

When Shah Rukh saw the staff of a multiplex sporting the Ghajini while he was busy promoting his latest flick Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, he said there is no bigger brand than Shah Rukh Khan. “I think it is a good strategy. You take the biggest brand in the country that is SRK and then use that platform to publicise yourself. I think Aamir rocks. The problem is that I cannot use any another brand because there is no one bigger than me,” says King Khan.

This was almost under the belt but when asked Aamir why he and King Khan have never teamed up for a film yet he says Shah Rukh is scared to work with him. “Shah Rukh is scared to work with me, what to do,” says Aamir.

And, yes Salman Khan is also in the same race. When he was asked to take off his T-shirt by his fans at an event in Mumbai he said nowadays Aamir is also taking off his shirt. “Nowadays Aamir khan is taking his T-shirt out. I will come back in Veer,” says Salman.

Six-pack and eight-pack is what all the Khans are competing for these days.

Shah Rukh shares with his Punjab experience

In his recently released, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Shah Rukh Khan plays the role of an employee of Punjab Power. The considerable part of this film was shot on location in Punjab state. Shah Rukh shares with his Punjab experience and why it was special for him shooting there.

"Shooting for our film at the Golden Temple in Amritsar for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was a great experience. In fact it was a blessing in disguise or else I would have never visited the place. Secondly shooting with people moving around it was different. We usually shoot in secluded places or on the sets." says SRK.

"Once I entered the Golden Temple I felt I am blessed that I could get access to a holy place like this. I could go and ’teko matha’ I got the Kada I got the Prashad, I prayed for my family for the film and everybody I know.

As an actor I do get to go to lot of beautiful places. But here it was different we were shooting with people moving around, they were really kind because everybody comes to think about Rab there nobody is really there to think about a shooting but I felt really nice having shot in the Golden Temple and great experience spiritually and off course filming wise it looks beautiful on screen" he further adds.

The King Khan loved the hospitality of the Punjabi’s, "I have done a lot of films in Punjab or different parts locales but Punjab’s on the whole are very lovable, hospitable.

They always feed you well so you get great food, great hospitality and you get great locations and you get great great crowds so we had lots of crowds there which is the only issue when you are shooting but they are really well mannered and really nice" he tells us.

Well the blessings surely seem to be working for Shah Rukh Khan and Yash Raj films this time with Rab Ne taking a bumper opening in Punjab and other Northern states of India.

"I come from an educated lower middle class background and I have never lost touch with that. Suri is what I really am. And my challenge as an actor is genuinely to make Surinder Sahni the new romantic icon, " Shah Rukh told in an interview.

"I want everybody not to love Raj (the name of his character in 1995 mega hit "Dilwale Dulhaniyan Le Jayenge") anymore and say ’We want to be Suri’. The romantic iconic status crown now shifts from Raj and Rahul to Surinder Sahni because he’s got a good heart, " he said.

He was also full of praise for his new co-star Anushka Sharma, saying she "kept him on his toes".

"I feel responsible for her (Anushka’s) career because she is starting off with me. I hope she does a fantastic job, " he said.

"From the bottom of my heart I pray for her and I hope this film does really good for her and she does amazing amount of work, so we can feel proud that we started her career on celluloid."

Excerpts:

Q: What was it like working with Anushka Sharma who is making her debut?
A: Anushka in a certain way has helped me a lot with this film. I had to react to this girl who’s so fresh and different. So as an actor, I would say she has kept me on my toes and I think she has done a wonderful job.

I feel responsible for her career because she is starting off with me. I hope she does a fantastic job. She kept me on my toes, not just by virtue of being fresh and new, by being taller than me also.

I truly from the bottom of my heart pray for her and I hope this film does really good for her and she does some amazing amount of work, so we can feel proud that we started her career on celluloid.

Q: What sets "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" apart from the other Yash Raj Films’ ventures that you have been a part of?
A: When Adi (Aditya Chopra, director) narrated it to me, I just felt that he’s being very courageous and brave. He really wants to experiment with commercial cinema but still tries to think different within that parameter.

I never thought that for his own directorial venture, after eight years, he will think of a film like "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi".

I think it’s truly brave of him to take three characters and make a whole film around them. I think it’s an evolution of a director and a producer and that’s what sets "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" very different from all the others.

Q: Your look in the film is very different and most talked about - can you tell us a bit about it?
A: The first character is Surinder Sahni and we wanted him to look like a middle class guy, having a fixed routine - perhaps to the extent of being boring.

We also wanted to give him a little bit of amusing quality without making him a caricature and to get all that, I think a physical appearance was important. Especially, for the movement of the story, the look was very important.

One day, I put a moustache and got some hairpiece done and showed it to Adi and he said, ’This is the guy he should look like.’ It’s not how weird or funny I look, but the simplicity of the character will permeate through the screen.

Q: Any one memorable incident during the shoot of the film?
A: I think the most memorable part was the first seven-eight days when I changed my look for Surinder Sahni. When I used to walk on the sets, nobody would recognise me.

I got a taste of things that will come 30 years later in my life when I will no longer be a star and nobody will recognise me. I think that is the most memorable moment but I hope it never happens to me ever again because not to be recognised after 20 years of such high recognition is something I wasn’t ready for.

Q: An extraordinary romantic icon like you playing an ordinary man in a love story. Comment.
A: I have always said that I am just an employee of the superstar that goes by the name of Shah Rukh Khan. I just need to work hard for my employer.

I am basically very ordinary in the way I think, in the way I do things. I come from an educated lower middle class background and I have never lost touch with that. Suri is what I really am. And my challenge as an actor is genuinely to make Surinder Sahni the new romantic icon.

I want everybody not to love Raj anymore and say ’We want to be Suri’. The romantic iconic status crown now shifts from Raj and Rahul to Surinder Sahni because he’s got a good heart.

RAB NE BANA DI JODI is not a small film after all. Though there were talks till date that Yash Raj Films and Shah Rukh Khan have come up with their smallest film ever, both in terms of scale and duration (there were even murmurs around the film’s length being a multiplex friendly 2 hours), that is far from true.

Though the scale at which the film is set would be visible once RNBDJ releases this Friday (we certainly aren’t talking about a KABHI KHUSHI KABHI GHAM or an OM SHANTI OM here since both were massive in look), it has been revealed that the film belongs to the old world school of near three hours duration, hence packing in quite a lot for all who wish to see Shah Rukh Khan for the longest duration on the big screen. The exact length of the film is in the vicinity of 2 hrs. and 45 minutes.

"Yes, the film is close to the duration you suggest though it could be a couple of minutes here or there", confirms Monica Bhattacharya, spokesperson of Yash Raj Films, "The film’s playing time is less than 3 hours for sure though."

This would still be less than Shah Rukh Khan’s longest movie with Yash Raj Films in recent times, VEER ZAARA, which lasted close to 190 minutes. Even KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA and SWADES crossed the 180 minutes milestone though DON was 170 minutes long, OM SHANTI OM spanned 160 minutes, CHAK DE INDIA stood at 150 minutes long with PAHELI being his shortest in recent times at only 140 minutes.
