Akshay Kumar has chosen not to do the desi remake of Hangover. Not because he’s got no dates, but because he no longer does films that endorse drunken and disorderly behaviour. Apparently after doing the foulmouthed Kambakkht Ishq and seeing how audiences received it, Akshay has decided to do only clean comedies.

After his pal, producer Feroz Nadiadwala, purchased the rights of Tod Philips’s 2009 blockbuster, Akshay was reportedly keen on doing the remake. But his date diary was clogged in 2009. And he had to choose between Nadiadwala’s Hera Pheri 4 and Hangover, both to be directed by Anees Bazmi. He opted out of the latter because of his principles.

But Akshay’s loss is Sanjay Dutt and Abhishek Bachchan’s gain. They are happy to do do this raunchy boys’ film. Anees intends to make many changes in the script. And his Hangover is guaranteed to be radically different from the original. Poor Akki, he does not even drink, so he can’t drown the sorrow or missing out on this one.

Sanjay Dutt inspiration to join politics is the new US president Barack Obama

One of Sanjay Dutt ’s biggest sources of inspiration to join politics is the new US president Barack Obama.

Believe it or not Sanjay knows Obama well enough to consider him a political role model. "Like him I am quite an outsider and an individual who has gotten over many levels of prejudice.

I’d like to think of myself as the regular friendly guy nextdoor who came into politics from the cold. Plus, Obama is a complete family man like me. I’d certainly like to pattern my political career on him."

Sanjay Dutt is the only Bollywoodian to have spent time with Obama. "I’ve met him when he was a Senator. But not since he became the President. I plan to do so now.

I’ve marched in an Independence Day rally with him when he was a senator. And we hit it off well. In fact recently I was called by the UN to be felicitated by Obama and Clinton’s families. Unfortunately Barack Obama couldn’t be there."

Now Sanjay is planning to meet up with the US President during his next visit. "As the UN’s ambassador for malnutrition I’ve to again go to the US shortly. I plan to meet up with Obama."

And needless to say, take tips from Obama on how how be a politician without losing family values. Sanjay is taking his Gandhian role in real life very seriously. "I haven’t touched alcohol in months. I’ve become a nimbu-pani man now. I don’t even sneak a drink. If I do I’ll be back guzzling the beverage. For me it’s always all or none. The only time I drank was 31 December and that too just a bit."

His next political move depends on the country’s legal system. "I’m very hopeful I’d be allowed to contest the Lok Sabha elections. They’ve allowed Navjot Sidhu who’s like my brother, why shouldn’t they give me a chance?

He was booked was under Section 302 years which amounts to murder. Navjot is a wonderful man. Things happen in life. The honourable court understood that and gave Navjot a chance to serve our people.

Why can’t they give me the same chance? My recent track record is very positive. I’m the UN’s ambassador for malnutrition. It’s a great honour for me and the country.

Sanjay Dutt promising people to 'Gandhigiri' in elections

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt charmed Lucknow - from where he intends to contest Lok Sabha elections - as he went on a political road show for the first time, promising people to live up to him screen image of Munnabhai with ’Gandhigiri’ and ’jadu ki jhappi’. Dutt took Lucknow by storm as he drove through the streets of the Uttar Pradesh capital, acknowledging the greetings of thousands who waited to cheer him.

Attired in a white khadi kurta-pyjama with a green muffler, a bearded Dutt was flanked by his wife Manyata well known filmstars-turned Samajwai Party MPs Jaya Prada and Jaya Bachchan, popular Bhojpuri star singer Manoj Tiwari and the party top brass including chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and general secretary Amar Singh.He won over the crowds by repeatedly referring to "Gandhigiri" - an unusual take on practising Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of truth and non-violence as depicted in the box office blockbuster ’Lage Raho Munnabhai’ - and said he would give "jadu ki jhappi" to the people of the constituency - referring to the term made popular by his mega hit ’Munnabhai M.B.B.S.’.

"I will offer flowers to Mayawati," he quipped when asked how he proposed to handle his key opponent. "You will see my Gandhigiri in real life now," he told a crowded press conference here at the end of his four-hour road-show.
Asked to comment about who would play his "circuit", the right-hand man to the character of Munnabhai, pat came the reply from Jaya Bachchan: "All of us".

Dutt was not unnerved by the high-profile poll campaign being undertaken by BSP nominee Akhilesh Das, who is now likely to get a run for all his money that was pumped in to make the Lucknow contest among the most expensive in the country.
Sure enough, Dutt’s entry on the Lucknow scene has already sent jitters down the BSP rank and file.

The party’s discomfiture became visible in a shabby protest staged by a handful of Das supporters, who put up placards declaring, "Sanjay Dutt wapas jaao" (Go back Sanjay Dutt).Earlier, an anonymous hoarding replaced one of Das’s campaign hoardings, showing an AK- 47 rifle and captioned, "Lucknow does not want AK-47", in an indirect attack on Dutt, who continues to remain convicted under the Arms Act for possession of an AK-47 ahead of the 1993 Mumbai terror attacks.

Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt met up on the sets of Veer

It happened on Thursday on the sets of Anil Sharma’s Veer at Film City.

Long-standing buddies Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt (whom Salman repeatedly in the past acknowledged as his role model until things went sour between them) met up on the sets of the Salman starrer Veer and poured their hearts out to each other.

A few days earlier when Salman heard Dutt was shooting on an adjoining set at Film City he decided to pay his estranged friend a visit.

Says a source, "It’s true Salman came all the way to Sanju’s set. But when he realized Dutt was shooting for Bunty Walia he quickly beat a retreat."

Walia, it must be remembered, was a Salman groupie until a few years ago when things soured between them.

And now Salman doesn’t want to see Bunty’s face. So he regretfully turned back from his meeting with Dutt. When Dutt heard about this, he took charge of the situation.

On Thursday afternoon he walked up to Salman’s sets and spent a good 45 minutes with his old friend. The ice between them broke the minute they hugged. They spoke about everything on this earth, except films, " says the source.

But at the end of the reunion, Dutt and Khan decided to do a film together. The two will be coming together in a film to be produced by Sanjay Dutt.

So what had gone wrong between Salman and his erstwhile mentor and role model?

The two were thick as thieves until a world tour where Salman apparently cut his hand to impress Dutt…a macho gesture that didn’t go down well Dutt.

Soon after the above incident in the US, Dutt had said to me in an interview, "I wish he would model himself on my better qualities. I do have many good qualities.

Salman should keep a low profile and work hard and get serious in life. All the playing around isn’t finally worth it. Ultimately all of us want to be remembered as good hardworking humanbeings.

The hit-and-run incident wouldn’t have made such a media splash if it wasn’t Salman Khan. But because he has been constantly in the news he went to jail and had to suffer. Being rash and brash in life is finally selfdefeating."

Having come to terms with his own rashness and brashness Salman seems to be mending the bridges with old friends. Sanjay Dutt was on top of his list.

Says the source, "They met like nothing had gone wrong between them. And have promised to meet up regularly."

“Only lizards have 12 packs,” said model turned actor and fitness icon Milind Soman who was one of the firsts in Indian showbiz to sport a perfect body.

“It’s unfair to one’s physiological mechanism to force oneself to such a quick routine,” said Milind. He is all set to open a gym chain called Breathe, in partnership with Rahul Dev.

“Besides John Abraham and Akshay Kumar, who did develop their bodies over a considerable period of time and Rahul Bose who has a proportionate body gifted by nature, others are being unfair to their bodies,” said Milind.

And this includes Mr perfectionist Aamir Khan . “I admire him for his work. He is an actor par excellence He recently shot for the GQ cover, and he looked stunning. But he doesn’t have a body, which should be flaunted. Aamir is (originally) a fat boy.”

According to Som Tugnait, fitness guru and HT columnist, there could be 10 pack abs at the maximum. “The thing that people call ‘abs’ are actually the Rectus Abdominis muscles. There can be at the most 10 packs. 12 pack abs is just not possible as the (body) shape wouldn’t permit.”

Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar got along like a house on fire

Contrary to reports about the two stars not seeing eye to eye, Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar got along like a house on fire when they came together after 14 years to shoot the underwater thriller Blue.

"The last time Akshay and I worked together was in Amaanat in 1994. And now Blue. I can see the transformation in him from then to now. It’s been a long journey for him. And in many ways, I see a reflection of my own journey," says Dutt.

The actor says that while rumours will maybe flying of the two heroes fighting, the fact is that the two of them bonded big time, exchanging notes in between complicated underwater sequences.

Rubbishing reports of fights with Akshay in Bangkok, Sanjay says, "Who’s spreading these rumours? Obviously some people can’t tolerate the fact that I get along with my co-stars. They want to see me fighting with my co-stars and directors. Sorry, I won’t oblige. Getting into fights with Akshay isn’t possible.”

"I’m a guy who gets along with everybody. And anyone who knows me will vouch for this. Akshay is like a younger brother to me. He gives me so much respect it’s embarrassing to hear we’ve been fighting. And the way he has struggled from scratch to become a big star is exemplary," Sanjay adds.

"They also wrote that I was having a fight with director Tony in Bangkok. I was in the water most of the time while he was directing me. When do I get a chance to have a fight with anyone? If anyone is trying to spoil the party for me, let me tell these spoilsports they aren’t going to succeed. They aren’t going to be invited for my parties,” signs off the star.

"To a certain extent 'Blue' is inspired by 'The Deep'," said Anthony D'Souza, Blue's director.
So is it about a sunken ship and drug smuggling?
"My film has nothing to do with drugs and cocaine. It is based on lost treasure which three friends try to find. It is related to the obstacles that they face in the process and the deceit and betrayal among themselves and others," D'Souza said.
"My film has certain special characters that will give it a different feel," he said, warning that his movie was inspired by many films not just one. "Blue' is not only inspired by one film but has references from various underwater films and also creature films like 'Jaws'," he added.Starring Sanjay Dutt, Katrina, Zayed Khan and Lara Dutta apart from Akshay, it is being touted as the most expensive movie ever made in Bollywood with a budget of over 120 crore.

D'Souza said that Sanjay and Akshay play fishermen from Bahamas, and Zayed joins them in a treasure hunt. Lara plays Sanjay's wife and Katrina's character has grey shades to it.
"Most of the characters in my film are in grey shades. The bad guy in the film is one among the three main lead characters and Katrina will surprise the audience with her role," D' Souza said.
"The three heroes, who go on the mission, have to encounter sharks before reaching the treasure," he added.

Actor Sanjay Dutt speaks out on his forthcoming release Kidnap.

What attracted you to Kidnap?

The moment Sanjay (Gadhvi) narrated the first line of the film, I knew I had to do it. It’s something I haven’t done in all these years. There was a sense of identification with the character - a father who deeply and immensely cares for his daughter and will go to any extent for her safety and happiness.

Did it help that Sanjay Gadhvi was the maker of the Dhoom series?

To be honest I had not seen Dhoom 1 or Dhoom 2, except their promos when he approached me. I believed in the subject and in him and decided to do it.

Tell us more about Kidnap?

My producers, director and co-actors went through a lot of anxiety during the shoot of Kidnap because of my trial. But all’s well that ends well. I am happy the film is complete, ready and looking good. It is my first release in 2008. I play a father to Sonia (Minissha Lamba) who is kidnapped by Kabir (Imran Khan). It’s an edge-of-the-seat thriller, which everyone is bound to enjoy. It has some great action and emotion and has been well written and directed. I hope my audience goes out and watches it.

Was it difficult playing a father?

No, why should it be? I have played father to Hrithik Roshan earlier.

How was it to work with the industry’s hottest youngster, Imran Khan?

We got along well. He’s a humble, conscientious and hardworking boy. He’s into his craft. He’ll go a long way and I hope and pray that success doesn’t change him.

Anything else you can recount during the shoot of Kidnap?

I enjoyed the action. It had my adrenaline rushing. I felt a teenager again! (Smiles).

B–town's MunnaBhai is all set to take his fans for an adventurous ride

Before you get puzzled, allow us to be more specific, actually Sanjay Dutt aka MunnaBhai is gearing up to turn producer and start films under his own banner, Sanjay Dutt Productions. And the very first film which he wishes to make is on adventure sports. For that matter Sanju has signed in KAAL fame director Soham Shah.

Sanjay, who is already working in Soham’s upcoming flick LUCK, was so impressed with Soham’s style of working that he instantaneously decided to rope in Soham for his first production venture. According to Sanjay Soham is the perfect director to direct the film on adventure sports.

If the reports are to be believed than this maiden venture of Sanjay Dutt won’t be based on a single sport; instead it would be a mix of several sports. B-town’s MunnaBhai is all set to take his fans for an adventurous ride!!

The film is still under scripting stage and expected to hit the floors early next year.

"He is playing a very interesting role in my forthcoming film. I don’t want to mention his character’s name as I want to keep it a secret but his character is similar to the character in the Alladin comic series. He is the guy who always concentrates on becoming a rich man and wants everything in life. He is the only person who is extremely focused in the film and can turn back to Aladdin. He wants to rule the world by any means. This character of Sanjay is quite different to the negative roles he has played so far. His negative act will be similar to Amrish Puri’s character in Ajooba. He will be wearing an attire which is completely Arabic," says Ghosh.

Further he adds, "Sanjay Dutt was quite excited to do this role which is entirely different from what he had played in the past. And he is always ready to work with Amitabh Bachchan."

Alladin has Amitabh Bachchan playing a mischievous genie. The film will release during Christmas and will clash with Ghajini.

Sanjay Dutt and Bunty Walia have decided to make a movie based on the battle of Saragrahi. For those of you who don’t know what that is, the battle of Saragrahi was fought during the Tirah campaign in the north-west frontier (now a part of Pakistan) of British India. Many Sikh soldiers sacrificed their lives defending an army post in the battle. According to a daily, Bunty being a Sikh himself has wanted to make a film on the subject for a very long time now. And this venture is like a dream come true to him. He then spoke to Sanjay Dutt about the idea who loved it.

The film titled, 21 Battle of Saragrahi - From Ashes to Glory will be produced under the banner of Sanjay Dutt Productions and G S Entertainment and directed by Rohit Jugraj. Sanjay Dutt will be playing Havildar Ishar Singh, who’d led the Sikh onslaught in that battle. 20 others have to be roped in for the cast as well.

The film will have some special effects for which Hollywood technicians have been roped in. With a budget estimated at Rs 200 crore, this could pass as the costliest Bollywood film ever made.

Superstar Sanjay Dutt is very serious about turning his lifestyle around. Dutt who has been training vigourously for his look in his next flick Blue has also stopped having any alcohol. Sanju’s trainer Lawrence says that this time around Dutt wants to completely turn around his lifestyle.
Sanjay’s body building goes deeper than the desired outer package. He’s been through so much not to forget the difficult legal issues. All through this he’s been a warrior. Now, with this new image he’s trying to create a new life. He has given up his drinking completely. Now he has good grab on his lifestyle and he’s completely refreshed and happy and smiling,” says Lawrence who has played an important role in Dutt’s turnaround.

But for all those who know Baba, they will agree that Sanjay has quite a playful side to him as well. Lawrence told us about a recent incident where he got to see the actor’s childish side.

“On Wednesday night when I told Sanjay ‘come on we gotta do some squats’ he went, ‘Aww… my back is not good.’ Then I winked to my other buddies and said ‘All right you don’t want do it that’s fine. But these guys aren’t having any back problem so they’ll have to do it. When everyone else agreed to workout, Sanjay got the hint that probably his fib got caught. Eventually he did the squat regime,” he says.

So while Sanjay may not like to do squats, Lawrence says stomach crunches on the other hand are quite a hit with the star.

“He loves doing it, more so because all of his fans are looking forward to those eight packs!” says Lawrence, “There is one more thing that can make Sanjay like any exercise he does - The presence of Maanyata. When they both are together there is so much positivity… it shows in the way Sanjay exercises.”

Sanjay Dutt is going to play the role of Amitabh Bachchan in Satte Pe Satta remake, titled Seven.

“Sanju and Raj Sippy had a lot of discussions on the film. When Satte Pe Satta was released, Sanju had just made an entry into Bollywood with his film Rocky. Even though he was basking in the glory of his newfound stardom, he found time to watch the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer many times,” a paper reported.

A source informed the paper, “It was Sanju who came up with the idea of doing a remake of the film. Sanju was Raj’s obvious choice for the lead role which was previously played by Bachchan.”

The source added, “Raj wishes to cast Rani Mukehrjee in Hema’s role and Vidya Balan in Ranjeeta’s role.”

Director Raj Sippy confirmed the news to the paper. “Sanju and I had several meetings to discuss the film. We have already worked out the major details and only have to seal the deal. Sanju and I share a very good rapport. I was his director in Thanedaar and we always got along well. Sanju is perfect for the role of a 40-plus bachelor.”

Raj said that the remake will be slightly different. “Unlike Satte Pe Satta which was a story of seven brothers, the remake will have four brothers and three sisters. However, I am yet to finalise the cast.”

He also reveled, “I am keen on having Rani for Hema’s role and Vidya Blan for Ranjeeta’s though I am yet to approach them.”

Satte Pe Satta is an adaptation of the Hollywood film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

Meraj-ur-Rehman’s the first husband of Manyata Dutt

Mumbai, (IANS) A Mumbai court Wednesday afternoon directed the Mumbai police to submit by Feb 25 its report on inquiry into Meraj-ur-Rehman’s claim that he is the first husband of Manyata, now wife of Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt.

Meraj, who is in police custody for sending obscene messages to Bollywood actresses, has in a written complaint to the Bandra metropolitan magistrate contended that Manyata’s marriage to Sanjay Dutt Feb 11 was illegal, as he has not divorced her yet.

According to Meraj, he married Manyata in 2003 and has a son from her. The son is now in Dubai with Manyata’s relatives.

Meraj, who has been a struggling writer in the film industry, told the police he only wanted custody of his son and was ready to legally divorce Manyata.

This is not the only complication that the newly married Dutt couple is facing. Sanjay and Manyata first had a registered marriage in Goa and then a Hindu ritual marriage in Mumbai.

However, the Goa district administration last week ordered re-examination of the marriage registration papers. For a registered marriage in Goa, at least one person must be a Goa resident for a minimum six months.

When Goa authorities learnt that the domicile certificate Manyata submitted was false, they served a show-cause notice on her last week and asked her why this certificate should not be cancelled.

Manyata has sought a fortnight’s time to file her reply to the notice.
