Film-makers Ram Gopal Varma and Karan Johar are known widely for not being friends having locked horns in many verbal duels with each other.
This time RGV has taken the lead in opening the fire against KJo by tweeting, “I hate I hate luv stories for being a big hit and I luv I hate luv stories cos its kjos film who I love 2 hate and hate 2 love and that’s our luv hate story.”

Of course, Karan was not going to take it lying down so he replied back to Ramu saying, “Thank u ramu!!! superb tweet ramu!!! You couldn’t have worded our “story” better!!”

Their verbal duel has cause widespread gossip in the grapevine.

A prominent producer says, “It is not fair for anyone to go personal against anyone. It is odd that Ramu has again opened the hatchets. KJo and he were lying low for a long time. This was uncalled for. It just increases the already existing negativity that the two have. It does not look good that Ramu is venting out his emotions in public. It does not look good for a film-maker of his stature to do this.”

Another producer adds, “It will only heighten the discord that the two have. Karan is having a good moment with his film doing well and this was uncalled for. It also shows that RGV hates him to an extent that he can’t stand his success. It is unnecessary.”

Ram Gopal Varma threw a challenge watch Phoonk 2 to get Rs.500,000

Director Ram Gopal Varma has claimed that `Phoonk 2` is scarier than his earlier venture `Phoonk`. He threw a challenge that anyone who could watch the film without getting scared would win Rs.500,000 - and none of the contestants could sit with a steady heart through the horror flick.

Among the five bravehearts shortlisted from different parts of India, Hitesh Sharma from Mumbai got the opportunity to finally take the hot seat.

`The bottom line is the challenger has lost and we won. I am very happy,` Varma told reporters at FAME cinema where Hitesh was shown the film alone and his heart beat was monitored with an ECG machine.

There were screens outside the hall to monitor his heartbeats and facial expression. After watching the film for 45 minutes, Hitesh took away his face from the screen and waved saying he couldn`t take the scares anymore.

Coming out of the hall, Hitesh admitted, `There were many scenes, which were really scary but I was controlling myself. Then came a scene which I couldn`t bear any more, so I gave up.`

Directed by debutant Milind Gadagkar, `Phoonk 2`, releasing Friday, is a sequel to `Phoonk` which was directed by Ram Gopal Varma.

Ram Gopal Varma`s Rann inspiring Nepal`s former Maoist guerrillas

rann

Two years afterRam Gopal Varma `s remake of the Bollywood classic `Sholay` suffered censors` scissors in Nepal, the film director`s new release `Rann` has met with an entirely different response here, with top Maoist leaders calling it "inspiring".

Nepal`s former Maoist guerrillas, who had often called for a ban on Hindi films during their 10-year "People`s War", have now trooped to see "Rann", starring Amitabh Bachchan, who plays a media tycoon grappling with wily politicians.

Former Maoist finance minister Baburam Bhattarai and his wife and former tourism minister Hisila Yami were given a red-carpet treatment by the owners of the Gopi Krishna multiplex in Kathmandu, close to deposed king Gyanendra`s former residence, when they turned up to watch "Rann" at a special screening, the Kantipur daily reported.

At a time Nepal`s politicians are busy drafting the new constitution, the Maoist couple expressed a desire to see the medley of news and politics, two essential ingredients of the Maoist movement. The two chose the latest Bollywood release over James Cameron`s blockbuster "Avatar" and were led to a special cabin in the theatre to watch Amitabh Bachchan, Paresh Rawal and Gul Panag in action.

As the film started, more Maoist leaders began to enter. They included two of the deputy commanders of the Maoists` underground People`s Liberation Army, Nanda Kishor Pun Pasang and Chandra Prakash Khanal Baldev as well as Maoist MPs Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and Netra Bikram Chand.

The otherwise frantically busy leaders watched the film for nearly two hours, mesmerised. At the end, while leaving the theatre, Bhattarai, whose name had been doing the rounds as the next prime minister of Nepal, had a comment.

"Films like these are an inspiration for us politicians," the daily quoted the scholar from New Delhi`s Jawaharlal Nehru University as saying. "It sends out the message that politicians have to reach top posts through ability."

Yami, a former student of Delhi`s School of Planning and Architecture and a peer of Arundhati Roy also had a comment. "The film teaches us that you shouldn`t join politics till you have won people`s faith," the former minister said.

"Even if you try to hide your sins by bribing the media, one day they will be out."

The praise was in sharp contrast to the way the censor authorities in Nepal had cut "Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag", a remake of "Sholay", two years back.

The Maoist couple had also recently watched "3 Idiots", the top-grossing Bollywood film starring Aamir Khan and directed by Raj Kumar Hirani. Last year, the Maoist-led government banned Bollywood action comedy "From Chandni Chowk to China" for wrongly describing India as the birthplace of the Buddha, who was born in southern Nepal.

Ram Gopal Varma and Ajay Devgan met up at Kadaikudi

Ajay

Ajay Devgn and Ram Gopal Varma met up at Kadaikudi last week and patched up after a two-year gap. They even have discussed doing a film together.

After the release of RGV Ki Aag, the actor was upset with the director, as he felt that what was narrated and what had appeared on the screen were totally different. The actor felt that Ramu had paid more attention to his heroine Nisha (now Priyanka) Kothari and had sidelined his character.

The frosty relationship between Ramu and Ajay was further exacerbated due to certain misunderstandings created by Ajay’s business manager Kumar Mangat Pathak.

Over the years, Ramu attempted to patch things up many times. He offered to meet up with Ajay over dinner a few times, but the actor backed out every time at the last moment. After some time, the director gave up trying to mend bridges.

Breaking the ice
Recently, they came face-to-face in Kadaikudi. This was the first informal meeting they had in two years. Ramu had dropped in to meet Surya (who is shooting with Ajay) to discuss dates for his next film Rakta Charitra.

Initially there was awkwardness between Ramu and Ajay but as the day progressed, they were back to their old equation. When Ramu asked Ajay why he hadn’t kept in touch, he brushed it off saying he’d been busy shooting his home production and other films.

The source adds, "Now Ramu is keen to do a film with Ajay, who has promised to read his script after returning to Mumbai. After giving hits like Company and Bhoot, Aag ruined things for this hit actor-director jodi. But now they are back together and planning something big."

Ram Gopal Varma and Ajay Devgan remained unavailable for comment.
