R. Madhavan has often got critical and commercial acclaim for his films but this time he has a new fan. The actor’s wife can’t stop raving about his look in his last film ’Teen Patti’.

Madhavan’s wife Sarita, who is a big Justin Timberlake fan, sings pop hit ’I’m bringing sexy back’ to him since she thinks his look in ’Teen Patti’ was very hot.

’Sarita keeps singing ’I’m bringing sexy back’ to Madhavan. It’s her way of sweetly teasing him. She absolutely loves his look in the film,’ said a source.

Madhavan played six characters in the film -- a casanova, an Italian, a high-end party goer, a slum dweller, a professor and a thug.

Actor Madhavan is happy about 3 IDIOTS response

IKLAN

zrtn_00

3 IDIOTS has taken an extremely positive start all over and is all set to be the biggest grosser of the year. While usual suspects like Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan have walked away with top honours, others like Madhavan and Sharman Joshi haven’t been pushovers at all. In a film that required each of the three ’idiots’ to enjoy equal footage right through the narrative, Madhavan has proved that there was actually a role of substance for him. No wonder, he is ecstatic about the response to the film and his act and is happy about 2009 which had 13B beginning it all and 3 IDIOTS taking it to conclusion.

With the kind of response that 3 IDIOTS has fetched, is it now the most special Hindi film ever for you?

Right from the moment I signed the film, it was the most special Bollywood outing for me. I always wanted to work with Raj Kumar Hirani. It wasn’t because he had given two super hits in a row but because I had heard legendary tales about him as a director. I have seldom seen someone who is so unanimously popular. He is a great human being and honestly, I am a sucker for nice people.

It is also being said that Hirani-Madhavan collaboration was pretty much due and that too from your TV days. Is that a fact?

Yes, that was actually the case. In fact when 3 IDIOTS was in an inception phase, I had gone to him and asked if he could please consider me for the project. I was in for a pleasant surprise when he said that he was looking forward to working with me since my TV days. Did you know that originally Munnabhai was planned to be made in a TV series format and I was supposed to work with Raju? This was around 10-12 years back. It couldn’t materialize then but call it a strange twist in the tale; I am now working with him in 3 IDIOTS.

With you being the only actor from down South who has been around in Bollywood for so many years, have you gone on to prove that if an actor is good enough, there isn’t any bias when it comes to the language?

Honestly speaking, my intent has never been to prove that a South Indian actor can make it in Bollywood. Really, those thoughts have never crossed my mind because to do that was never my objective. It’s not that the Hindi speaking audience finds me as an alien. I have been earlier accepted on TV and now I am glad that this has continued with my films too. I have been consistently getting A grade movies which is a great feeling. But no, it isn’t like I have achieved something that I was trying to veer towards. That was never the case.

Madhavan is unperturbed by the Aamir Khan hogging the limelight

IKLAN

Aamir Khan is making waves by promoting upcoming film ‘3 Idiots’ in innovative ways. But co-star R. Madhavan is unperturbed by the actor hogging the limelight. In fact, he admits that the film is being sold on the superstar’s name and he has no problems with that.

‘Aamir is the biggest star; so it would be foolish to think that the focus will be entirely on you when he is in the film. We are selling ‘3 Idiots’ on his name,’ Madhavan, who had teamed up with Aamir in the hit film ‘Rang De Basanti’, told IANS.

Aamir has launched a game where one has to spot the Bollywood star who will travel across the country in different get-ups in two weeks. His travels have so far taken him to Varanasi, Madhya Pradesh’s Chanderi district, former cricket captain Sourav Ganguly’s home in Kolkata and Jaipur.

‘However, the fact is that the film is called ‘3 Idiots’ and I’m one of the three; so my presence is obviously felt,’ said Madhavan.

Releasing Dec 25, the film also stars Kareena Kapoor and Sharman Joshi. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, it is about two idiots - Sharman and Madhavan - who are in search of the third idiot, played by Aamir.

The 39-year-old actor said it was wonderful working with Aamir again.

‘It was great getting back with Aamir and Sharman after ‘Rang De Basanti’. We stayed together in a hostel during the shoot of the film and had a great time. Aamir is an outstanding friend and a very loving person. He pursues things till perfection. I have learnt a lot from him,’ he said.

The actor, who was an engineering student, refrained from speaking about his role in the film, but said it resembles his own life.

Talking about ‘Munnabhai’ director Hirani, Madhavan said: ‘He is the most chilled out director I have ever worked for; he is amazing and makes an actor so relaxed on the sets.’

So, does he feel that ‘3 Idiots’ has the potential to beat the ‘Munnabhai’ series directed by Hirani?

‘Of course. ‘3 Idiots’ has the potential to beat all films,’ he said.

Madhavan, who has earlier featured in films like ‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Guru’ and ‘13B’, is also looking forward to Leena Yadav’s ‘Teen Patti’, which stars Amitabh Bachchan and Hollywood veteran Ben Kingsley.

The reason for Madhavan opting out In Jaya Bachchans Movie

IKLAN

madhava

As per the original cast, Madhavan  was supposed to play Ayesha Takiya’s supportive husband who encourages her to ’adopt’ an abandoned mother (Jaya Bachchan). But now the actor, who is busy shuttling between Chennai and Mumbai attending to various Tamil and Hindi projects, has said no to " Chassni ".

Apparently the long line-up of lady performers from Jaya and Ayesha Takiya to Raveena Tandon and Urvashi Sharma, put Madhavan off. He was left wondering what he would be doing in a ladies’ picture.

But the actor gives another reason for opting out.

"I loved the script and I really wanted to act with Jayaji whom I admire a lot. But the producers were undecided about their dates till the last minute. And I had too many assignments. My priority right now is Raj Kumar Hirani’s ’3 Idiots’," said Madhavan.

Sharma has now begun shooting without a leading man but she is desperately seeking a hero.

"Once a film has so many ladies in the cast a hero is as hard to find as mangoes in the desert," said a female member of the cast.

Madhavan who is on a dieting spree

IKLAN

Tamil superstar R. Madhavan first shed six kilograms to look compatible on screen with Shruti Haasan, and now he is required to lose still more to pull off his college boy look in Raj Kumar Hirani’s Three Idiots. And to be able to quickly lose the required weight, Madhavan has gone to Britain.
"My sister lives in Ashford and there're very good health clinics here. Whenever I need to change around my metabolism or rework my physique for a role, I head for Ashford. And at the moment I'm re-working my physique to look like a student," says Madhavan who has shifted his bases to Mumbai to seriously pursue his career in Bollywood.

But it’s not just Madhavan who is on a dieting spree. His co-stars Aamir Khan and Sharman Joshi have been told to change their physical appearance to "look like IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) students."
"Aamir will lose some of that aggressively muscular look that he has acquired for Ghajini. He needs to look leaner and more athletic, as he did in Dil Chahta Hai. Playing a student at 40-plus won't be difficult for Aamir. He has done so in Rang De Basanti with great success. Sharman doesn't need to lose any weight. He looks completely in character. Madhavan needs to look more toned," said a source close to the project.
A time frame has been set for each of the actors to get into shape to suit their characters.
"It's not about looking thinner or younger. All three of us need to look convincing as IIT students. How we choose to do so has been left to us," said 38-year-old Madhavan.
He returns in two weeks to resume the shooting of Teen Patti, which was suspended when his co-star Amitabh Bachchan fell ill.
"It was scary how suddenly he was taken ill. We really don't care about the delay. All we want is for Amitji to be perfectly all right again," Madhavan said.

Shah Rukh is the Badshah of Bollywood and Madhavan thinks himself

Mad

Shah Rukh is a role model for many starters in Bollywood. His struggle to become the ‘King’ of the industry has become an ideal for many. Even a few film old R. Mahadevan feels the same way for Shah Rukh. So, when he was approached to do the Tamil version of SRK’s hit movie Yes Boss, he was more than just eager, he was thrilled!

Madhavan expressed his excitement to portray Shah Rukh’s role in the following way, “I’m quite excited to be a part of the remake. I thoroughly loved the film. Shah Rukh was amazing in Yes Boss. He had so much energy. He was so charged up that he stood out in the film. It will be quite a task to match his efforts.” The Tamil film is titled Guru En Aalu.

Shah Rukh is the Badshah of Bollywood and Madhavan thinks himself to be fortunate to enact his role. Maddy is the most sought after actor of South and filmmakers find him to be the right choice for this role.

I am very very glad that an ad we’ve done together has worked out well-MADHAVAN

IKLAN

Actor Madhavan

MADHAVAN may have won the hearts of the audiences with his debut film, Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, but his career in Bollywood did not take off the way it ought to have after such a beautifully choreographed musical extravaganza.

How is it that though he is a big name in kollywood, and has some amazing hits to his credit down South, he doesn’t have many Hindi films to his credit? “Yeah, I am not keeping my fans deprived anymore. I will soon start shooting for the film 3 Idiots besides the film Teen Patti alongside Mr Bachchan. I also have this film called Happy New Year with T-Series. There is a film being made on reality television and its impact on our lives,” informs Maddy.

For now, however, this talented actor seems to be winning the audiences with his heart-felt performance in the recently-released film which has the Mumbai bomb blasts as the backdrop. The film earned some rave reviews and is released at a time when the memories of the bomb blasts still continue to haunt the victims. Doesn’t it stoke the embers of their painful memories? Agrees Maddy, “Unfortunately, the film has released at a wrong time when the memories are still fresh in people’s minds.”

And, the film seems to have had a deep impact on him. For, as he continues to talk about it, he suddenly gets into an agitated mode. “I am getting extremely irritated by the passing day. There is a limit to how much a country can take. It is about time we stop taking crap and turn back and bite. We have to be magnanimous about our feelings now. And, I think, it cannot get worse than this,” says he.

Moving over from the film, his chemistry with Vidya Balan is the latest talk of the town. And, he is happy about it. “I am very very glad that an ad we’ve done together has worked out well. And, our chemistry there has led to many movie opportunities featuring the two of us,” says Maddy smiling.

Now, that’s something interesting! What kind of films are these? And, he gives an expected answer. “We are still in the talking stages and cannot really spill any beans right now,” says he in a semi-apologetic tone.

For this actor par excellence, a good story and a great producer are the prime requisites to take up a film. And, between accolades and awards, what does he prefer? “Money!” is Maddy’s frank reply! And, he knows for sure what he is talking about!

Actor Madhavan met MS Dhoni for

Madhavan-Dhoni

Madhavan, the handsome hunk of South India, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, IPL’s CSK team Captain, came face-to-face on the ramp. The Chennai superstars were participating in a ramp show in Chennai. The delight of the evening was the interaction between Madhavan and Dhoni during which the Madhavan quizzed Dhoni, who has become a son of Chennai by becoming captain of its team.

Madhavan, who met Dhoni for the first time, did not hide his admiration for the hard-hitting cricketer. “We were both born and brought up in Bihar, and I was always a great admirer of his style of playing cricket. He is a cool guy,” Madhavan said.

When Madhavan asked Dhoni if he preferred Malpua or Thairu vadai, Dhoni did not hesitate even a moment in replying,. “Thairu vadai”. The audience burst out when Madhavan revealed that backstage Dhoni had confessed that his favourite is Malpua.

Madhavan replaces Arshad Warsi

IKLAN

madhavan0002zu2

A big excitement awaits Madhavan. "I’m finally going to work with Mr. Bachchan. It has been a long-cherished dream. When he did a guest appearance with me in Ramji Londonwale I couldn’t stand straight, I was so nervous and excited. Now we’re finally coming together in Leena Yadav’s Teen Patti. And all thanks to Arshad Warsi," jokes Maddy about Arshad’s unceremonious exit from the project.

Maddy will have to learn to play cards for his gambler’s role. "I’ve never played cards before. So I’ll have to start from scratch. At the moment, I’ve plenty of time to learn stationary skills. I’ve just had a painful molar extraction done. I can’t go out and can’t talk much either. In fact I’m surprised the producers of Teen Patti signed me with this swollen face."

Maddy goes into Teen Patti at year-end. Right now, he starts work on the Tamil version of Aziz Mirza’s Yes Boss where he steps into Shah Rukh Khan’s shoes. "Nishikant Kamat who directed me in the Tamil version of Dombivali Fast and in Mumbai Meri Jaan put me in touch with the working-class side of my personality. Now I need to get back to playing super-heroic parts. Otherwise my audience in Tamil Nadu will think I’ve mellowed down incurably."
