Stars Akshay Kumar And Katrina Kaif Spotted Praying Wallpapers, Photo

IKLAN
The countdown to the release Bollywood Movie of Tees Maar Khan is on and its lead stars Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif were spotted praying for the film’s success at the Golden Temple.

Akshay, who is a Punjabi boy, had his head covered with a saffron patka with the symbol of Sikhism. Katrina was very simply dressed in a white kurta, pyjama and a black jacket to keep away the chill of Amritsar winters.

The duo prayed together and, accompanied by Gurudwara officials, took a round of the holy shrine. Akshay has had a poor year this year, with all his films flopping at box office. Hope his prayers will be answered and Tees Maar Khan will set the cash registers ringing.

The most expensive film ever made in Indian cinema called Lanka

IKLAN

Bollywood’s Most Expensive Movie

Bollywood is getting more and more ambitious. If producer Vikas Kapoor and director Samir Karnik (the Heroes pair) can be expected to fulfill their next dream, The most expensive film ever made in Indian cinema, history is on the cards. Tentatively, it is being called Lanka; and, Kapoor and Karnik have five Bollywood hunks in mind for the film and one hot woman.

The film is being described as a thriller, and its production values are already around Rs 90 crore, that’s not counting the fat pay packets of the star cast. Much like
Mission Impossible, Lanka will be shot underwater extensively, and the plot has the six actors trying to recover 60,000 tons of gold from the seabed 6,000 feet below.

Not exciting enough? Then hear this! The cast includes hunk Salman Khan, Greek God Hrithik Roshan, the hot and sexy Abhishek Bachchan, the intense Ajay Devgan and the daring Bobby Deol and the sultry Priyanka Chopra. Kapoor, unwilling to divulge much, admitted, “We are finalising the script and nobody’s officially been signed so far. But, this being an adventurous project, we will require actors of that calibre to fit the roles. We have bounced the script with a few of them and all are very excited.” He is unfazed by the headache of handling so many big stars. “It’s not rocket science,” said Kapoor, “if you have a good script and you respect the stars’ space, they cooperate.

Because everyone works towards making the film a success.” Action experts and technical wizards from Hollywood will be flown down when the film is being shot in India. Otherwise, action sequences are also planned in Las Vegas, parts of Japan, Paris, with the underwater sequences being kept for Australia.

Akshay did the shot without a duplicate in just one take

IKLAN

The Khiladi Akshay Kumar has done it again. This time he has done a jaw-dropping stunt for Nagesh Kukunoor’s new action venture ‘Eight By Ten’.

The stunt has Akshay running to the edge of a cliff situated at the dizzy height of around 160 feet and then taking a dive into the water below. Akshay did the shot without a duplicate in just one take, stunning everyone in the unit, including the director. While the entire crew was terrified, Akshay was pretty cool about it.

‘Eight By Ten’ is a supernatural thriller produced by Percept Picture Company. The film has Akshay playing a guy with amazing mental powers. The rumours are that his character in the film is of a guy who cannot be hurt. The climax of this movie is set underwater for which Akshay was tied up in chains. The movie stars Ayesha Takia playing the role of Akshay Kumar’s wife. The supporting cast included Vinod Khanna, Sharmila Tagore , Javed Jaffrey and Anant Mahadevan.

Akshay gets to play a Sikh again in Mehta’s film

IKLAN

With Amitabh Bachchan relieved from Deepa Mehta’s film ‘Komagata Maru’, the reigning superstar Akshay Kumar has stepped in to play the lead role.

Big B, Mehta’s original choice to play the protagonist Gurdit Singh in the film (also titled Exclusion ), has been dropped from the project because the film’s co-financier, the Canadian government, has laid the condition that the main actors in the film have to be Canadian citizens.

Now, Akshay Kumar, who has a permanent resident status of Canada, has been roped in to play the part.

Speaking about working with Deepa Mehta , Akshay told a news agency: "I am not used to working with Oscar nominated directors so it is a great privilege for me to work with Deepa Mehta.”

Talking about the film’s subject, Akshay said: “The subject of this film has moved me, as it is a true representation and a testimony to human struggle for freedom, justice and equality. I want to portray this real life tragedy to the world identifying how injustice was done to innocent people."

Interestingly, after Singh Is Kinng , Akshay gets to play a Sikh again in Mehta’s film.

"It’s an honour for me to play one of the bravest Sikhs, Gurdit Singh, in this tragic forgotten moment in history. I salute those brave souls who sacrificed their lives for justice and equality", he said.

KOMAGATA MARU

Set in 1914, the movie tells the tale of Indians who fled the country and sailed for Canada to escape persecution at the hands of the British. It was a voyage marked with tragedy. The Indians on the ship, Komagata Maru, weren’t allowed to enter Canada and remained bound on the vessel while a two-month long legal battle followed, which the Indians lost. Dejected and homeless, the Indians on the ship sailed back to India. Upon reaching India the ship came under fire from the British forces and many innocents lost their lives.

The voyage was carried under the leadership of Gurdit Singh, the protagonist of Mehta’s movie.

Sanju and Akki have revived their friendship

IKLAN

Sanja

Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar bonded like brothers while shooting for action adventure Blue .

In an industry where ego tussles are rife, Sanjay and Akshay stand apart as exceptions. Though the rumours would have you believe otherwise, the truth is Sanju and Akki have been getting along like a house on fire while shooting underwater action sequences for ‘Blue’ in Bangkok and Phuket.

The two stars are teaming up after a long gap of 14 years. They last worked together in the 1994 movie ‘Amaanat’.

And now that they have come together in ‘Blue’, Sanju and Akki have revived their friendship. Akshay, who continues to be a humble person despite the incredible success he has achieved in the recent years, has been treating Sanju - who’s his senior - like a big brother on the outdoor schedule of the film.

Dutt has been reciprocating Akki’s warmth. The two stars are often spotted indulging in discussions on their favourite subjects - fitness, films and food.

So, all the rumours of friction between Dutt and Kumar can bite the dust for now.

SINGH IS KINNG completing 50 days at the box office

IKLAN

SING

SINGH IS KINNG would be entering its 8th week tomorrow, hence completing 50 days at the box office. The way SINGH IS KINNG has managed to hold on, it would certainly become Akshay’s biggest money spinner ever as WELCOME record of 76 crores appears in sight to be broken in weeks to come. The film has already earned 75 crore at the box office and gathering 1 crore more in next few weeks is pretty much an achievable task. For Anees Bazmee too, it would be second 75 crore + superhit in a row whereas Katrina Kaif is already basking in the glory of countless hits that she has delivered in last year and a half.

SINGH IS KINNG comes in the wake of recent Akshay successes like WELCOME, BHOOL BHULAIYAA, HEYY BABYY, NAMASTE LONDON, BHAGAM BHAG and PHIR HERA PHERI. His TASHAN didn’t perform at the box office but is still the biggest money spinner when it comes to flops coming out of Hindi cinema.

Now 2009 looks even grander with CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA looking massive followed by KAMBAKTH ISHQ which is another huge project. HOUSEFULL and BLUE would release in 2009 as well while his long delayed TASVEER would finally see the light of the day too. Then there is Priyadarshan’s DE DANA DAN which is expected to be a quickie that would release before next year end.

With such a massive line up of films in months to come, Akshay is certainly looking forward to a cracker of a year in 2009.

Akshay too chose to play down the deal

King Akshay Kumar has reached where no actor has gone before. We hear that the actor has signed a whopping Rs 71 crore film deal with UTV.

Ram Mirchandani, founder & COO, UTV Rampage Motion Pictures, confirmed that their company had signed the Singh Is Kingg star. “But the remuneration figure being bandied about is far less,” he said, adding warily, “The buzz is market speculation. And, we as a company, don’t comment on market speculation.”

Akshay too chose to play down the deal.

“I am a stakeholder in the film that’s yet to go on the floor. Who arrived at this figure? Market rates fluctuate. My price will be decided when the film is being sold. Who knows what the market will be like then?”

Singh is Kinng, the producers of Blue thought of bringing Fergie to Bollywood

IKLAN

Ferg

After rapper Snoop Dogg, yet another international pop star will be a part of a Bollywood film. Fergie, singer of the band Black Eyed Peas, will be a part of the much awaited Akshay Kumar-Sanjay Dutt starrer Blue.

“After all the hype the Snoop Dogg video created for Singh is Kinng, the producers of Blue thought of bringing Fergie to Bollywood. Akshay will croon with the hot singer for a video for the film,” informs a source.

But unlike Snoop’s video this one will see the diva flying down to India to shoot for the video.

“The plan at the moment is to bring Fergie here to Mumbai and record the song and shoot the video. And like most Fergie videos this one too is expected to grab eyeballs. Ashtvinayak - the producers of the film - and director Anthony D’Souza are going to direct the video themselves. The deal is almost through between the producers and Fergie’s record label,” informs the source.

With the hype already surrounding the action packed Blue, we can’t help but wonder what will happen once Fergie adds her flavour to the film.

About Fergie

Thirty three year old Stacy Ann Ferguson or Fergie as she is popularly known grabbed the limelight as the lead vocalist for the hip hop group the Black Eyed Peas. Subsequently, she went solo and released her debut album The Dutchess in September 2006. The album did very well on the music charts and went on to become the seventh album from a female artist to generate five Top 5 hits. Fergie has gone from being a former member of the kids’ television series Kids Incorporated to one of the most successful American music artists. She has launched her own fashion line, modeled for other names and has also taken to acting in films.

Akshay and Katrina might come together for another project

IKLAN

The good-looking duo is set to tag up for a comedy film despite the rumours that they won’t work together again.

With the exception of their first film together ( Humko Deewana Kar Gaye ), Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif have set the cash registers ringing whenever they have paired on the silver screen. With three back-to-back hits ( Namastey London , Welcome and Singh Is Kinng ), the duo are seen as a jodi that guarantees box-office success no matter how much plot-holed a film’s script happens to be.

Perhaps to further cash on this magical jodi, director Vipul Amrutlal Shah has already announced his plan of making yet another film with the duo.

But before that Akshay and Katrina might come together for another project - a comedy film to be directed by Priyadarshan and produced by Venus.

The Bollywood buzz is that the film is titled ‘De Dhana Dhan’. It will go on the floors in November this year and will be shot in Singapore over a course of two months.

T-Series have published huge ads congratulating Akshay Kumar

IKLAN

Aksh

Last month we had brought to you straight from the director Nagesh Kukunoor the news that both his forthcoming ventures, AASHAYEIN and 8x10 may release this year itself. While the John Abraham starrer AASHAYEIN already has a probable November release date, it looks as if things are also moving forward with regards to Nagesh’s much awaited venture 8x10.

In a bid to cash in on the big success of SINGH IS KINNG, the makers of 8x10, Percept Picture Company and audio giants, T-Series have published huge ads congratulating Akshay Kumar, who also happens to be the lead hero of their upcoming venture, the Nagesh Kukunoor directed 8x10.

What is interesting to note is that the makers are now referring to the Akshay Kumar-Ayesha Takia starrer as TASVEER, with 8x10 in a smaller text below. There is also a footnote which says ’Coming Soon’, which somewhat confirms Nagesh’s information about the film releasing this year.

Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Vipul Shah share the red carpet with the likes of George Clooney

Singh is Kinng definitely proves to be a king of the box office not only in India but various other countries abroad. The biggest hit this year has also made it to the glittering Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF 2008). It will be one of the eleven coveted movies to be screened at The Roy Thomson Hall on Sunday, 7th September, 2008.

So we are about to see Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Vipul Shah share the red carpet with the likes of George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Colin Farrell, David Schwimmer and Kate Beckinsale.

IKLAN

Akshay Kumar is fourth biggest star along with the top three – Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan

IKLAN

Singh is Kinng, the simple story of a bumbling Sikh who travels from his village in Punjab to Australia to get back a wayward son of the soil who has brought dishonor to the village, is all set to become the top grosser of all times. The film recorded a whopping 95 per cent opening in its first weekend.

More important, it has re-written the rules of the Indian movie business. For the first time, the lead character of a film is a Sikh, if one were to exclude the Sunny Deol-starrer rabble-rouser Gadar. And it is now agreed in the film industry that nobody else but Akshay Kumar could have done justice with the role of Happy Singh.

Kumar, it now seems, was sure of the film’s success right from the word go. His company, Hari Om Productions, is a 33 per cent producer of the film. According to film trade analyst Komal Nahta, Singh is Kinng grossed Rs 25 crore in its first weekend itself. That made Kumar richer by a cool Rs 8.33 crore.

More money is certain to come. The film continues to do extremely well in India as well as abroad. There have been reports that in Pakistan, theatres have overbooked and people are watching the film squatting on the aisle.

Partially because he co-produced the film and partly because he and Singh in Kinng’s producer, Vipul Shah, go back a long time, Kumar did not charge his full fees of Rs 30 crore and took only Rs 12 crore. “Because Akshay and I have worked together, and given hits in the past, he didn’t quote his market price for Singh is Kinng,” says Shah.

But it could prove to be the wisest decision Kumar ever made. “Any producer will pay him Rs 50-60 crore now,” says Nahta. For the record, this used to be the budget of a large scale film till not so long ago. Trade pundits say only Shah Rukh Khan can command this kind of money from producers.

What makes Kumar click? Unlike most other stars, Kumar has a massive fan following in not just metros but also smaller towns and cities. “He is a very good looking hero who entered the industry as an action hero at a time when audiences really looked up to that genre,” explains Nahta.

Born as Rajiv Bhatia into a middle class household at Amritsar and raised in the cramped Chandni Chowk neighborhood in Delhi, Kumar learnt martial arts in Thailand and worked as a cook in Bangkok. His next stop was Bollywood.

Kumar struggled in his initial years (he entered the industry in the early 1990s), despite giving hits like Khiladi, Mohra and Main Khiladi Tu Anari. His real success story began in 2000 when he moved to the comedy genre with Hera Pheri. After that, there was no looking back.

“Kumar’s is not a fresh face in the industry but with each film he’s willing to experiment, and that’s what gives him the edge,” reasons Sandeep Bhargav, the chief executive of Indian Films which has co-produced Kumar’s films in the past including Namaste London and now Singh is Kinng.

Bhargav makes a point: “He’s an actor who was game to don a turban in his new film. How many leading names in Indian cinema can actually do that?” Shah interjects: “He carried off a pink kurta in Namaste London, it wasn’t easy but he did it. He’s extraordinarily professional and a no-nonsense guy.”

Around the time Singh is Kinng was making waves at the Box Office, Kumar television tryst too paid off. Charging Rs 1.5 crore per episode, Kumar’s debut as an anchor on Colors’ Khatron Ke Khiladi has fared well with peak ratings of 2.3. The show gave the brand new channel the visibility and excitement it was looking for. So much so, some critics feel it will face a tough challenge to find a replacement for the show. Then there are brand endorsements. After Thums Up and Microsoft X Box, rumours are rife that a large multinational company is in talks with the actor.

“Kumar, despite being a top-rung actor in films, has remained (like Hrithik Roshan) in the second rung as far as endorsements go, says Harish Bijoor, brand specialist & CEO, Harish Bijoor Consultants, adding: “But now, with his films succeeding constantly, he’ll now break the glass ceiling to be the fourth biggest star along with the top three - Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan.”

While he charged Rs 1.5 crore for his earlier endorsements, Kumar, says Bijoor, will command Rs 5-6 crore, per endorsement. In Bijoor’s view, Kumar’s foray into television has been an intelligent move. “While he was just a film star earlier, television ensured the entry of this macho man into the living rooms of thousands of audiences.” Clearly, for now, Kumar’s the king.
